SUSAN LUCAS
Instructor
Using the dynamic landscape of Metro Detroit as the stage for her photographic portraits of her two Weimaraner dogs, Susan Lucas’ art unveils the presence of emotion, wisdom, and humor in dogs who appear to be casually involved in city life. Her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States. The appeal of her art lies in her ability to create a visual dialogue between dogs and city landscapes meant for human, not animal stories. Graffiti, park benches, flowers, sidewalks, storefronts, and vacant buildings become places where her dogs are pictured contemplating or frozen in a moment of emotional significance. Susan Lucas has over 20 years of teaching experience in the field of Photography and Art at a highly competitive independent school and has been recognized with several national teaching awards.
