The Paint Your Partner workshop at Atelier School of Art in Royal Oak, MI is a one-of-a-kind couples art experience where you and your partner take turns posing and painting each other. No art experience is needed our friendly instructors guide you every step of the way.

What types of art classes do you offer?

How do I become a member, and what are the benefits?

You can become a member at any time by paying an annual fee of $200. Membership gives you a 15% discount on all classes and workshops for 12 months from the purchase date. Family memberships are available for $300/year. The discounted rates start from the first day of your membership. Please note that memberships are non-refundable.

How large are your classes?

We like to keep our class sizes right around 10 students to ensure plenty of one-on-one attention, guidance and support.

How can I register for a class?

You can register for a class by creating an Atelier account on our website. By placing a $60 deposit, you will not only be paying for your first class you will also be holding your spot on the roster. If you are beginning a class mid-month, no worries at all, we can prorate the remaining monthly amount and begin your normal billing cycle on the 1st of the following month.

How do make-up sessions work?

Make-up sessions can be used within your current class, in another class of your choice, or even towards workshops. However, make-up sessions are only available if the cancellation was made more than 48 hours in advance.

What is the cancellation policy for workshops?

You can cancel a workshop with at least 7 days’ notice for a full refund. If you cancel with less than 7 days’ notice, you’ll receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given if you cancel less than 48 hours before the workshop.

How does tuition and billing work?

Tuition is billed on the 1st of each month and covers your one class per week. The monthly fee for members is $247 for 4 classes, while non-members pay $286. If there is a 5th class in the month, there will be an additional charge. Monthly payments are automatic and continue until you decide to cancel. Please provide at least one week’s notice to cancel before the next billing cycle. No refunds are issued for missed classes, only make-up sessions if notified at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled class.

Are there additional fees for classes?

Some classes, camps, and workshops may require additional fees for materials or models, depending on the course.

Do you provide any materials for the classes?

All materials for youth classes are provided in the monthly fee. For adult/high school students you can purchase the materials from the suggested supply list on your own or pay an additional fee of $80/month to have the materials provided by Atelier.

What happens if there is inclement weather?

Typically, we follow the Royal Oak Schools cancellation policy for inclement weather. If possible, we will reschedule the class for a different day/time. If classes are canceled, you will be contacted via your email address on file. If classes cannot be rescheduled, we will issue a refund.

Can I visit the studio before enrolling in a class?

Of course! Feel free to sign up for a studio tour online or call the studio at 248-951-4400 to set up an appointment that works for you.

Your classes say ‘ongoing’ what does that mean?

Our classes run all year long and are not limited by semesters or time frames. There is never any stress to re-register! Students remain enrolled on a month to month basis and are encouraged to continue developing and progressing as long as they would like to.

Can I book a private lesson at your studio?

Absolutely! Private lessons can be scheduled as per student/teacher availability. Private lessons cost $100/hour and can be tailored to your specific needs. Please contact the studio if you are interested or have any questions at 248-951-4400.

Can I rent your studio for a private event?

Yes! Our studio can be rented for private or corporate events, please contact the studio for pricing and availability. Make your next event beautiful and memorable in our warm and unique space!

Great studio. Went for an evening of “Paint your partner” And had a great time. It was so much fun. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The environment was very supportive. I am considering taking classes there. But the event was so fun. Great for a date night or a fun night with friends. Hope this is a regular offering.

All of the instructors are not only exceptional artists but also warm and patient….. a clear reflection of Todd.  Todd has created a community of wonderful teachers and students, eager to learn.   It is the most welcoming atmosphere and I look forward to my weekly classes.  In addition to Todd, I’ve painted under the supervision of Tim. However, the way the instruction is laid out you go through stages of the painting and don't really move on until you master each stage - people can't believe it's my first painting! I have been taking classes at the Atelier School of Art in Royal Oak since last year. I can absolutely say that Todd Burroughs (the wonderful artist, teacher and leader of this atelier) has put together a world-class level art school - while at the same time - keeping it approachable to anyone from any skill level (or even no level). His staff and cadre of instructors are second-to-none. This is the most welcoming art school environment that I have ever encountered. There is no judgement here - only support, guidance and inspiration. From elementary student up to older adults - this art atelier has something of value for you. Highly recommended!
